In its original painted, faux scumble paint ochre and burgandy redfinish, patina from age and use. Internally it is lined it still has its original blue star paper lining  handles, lock and iron banding and handles are intact.

The hand painted scumble finish was designed to mimic more expensive imported timbers and used by provincial cabinet makers. This is a rare survivor in the original paint, as most of these were stripped back to pine in the 1970s and 80s.

Trunks or portmanteaus were made sturdy for long journeys with locks to hold valuables by rail or sea, Place this beautifully worn down decorative wooden chest in your space to create instant character and class .

There are signs of use splits and nicks and small areas rubbed off paint which are all part of its age and character, expected for a trunk which is over 120+ years old.
