Black Forest Naturalistically Carved Hall Chair
Swiss, Black Forest
Period: Late 19th c.
1880-1900
This beautiful folk art chair has untouched, naturally bare wood, it's back pierced and profusely carved with oak leaves and interlaced branches, within is an incised square basketweave pattern. Its seat is meticulously carved with bark detailing which is overall incredibly naturalistic, and the legs are also beautifully carved on all four sides.
An enchanting example wonderfully aged through time. Quirky and exquisitely detailed, it exemplifies the superb craftsmanship of that region. Structurally stable and sound and would work well as a fireside chair, in a hallway or any room space.
