Oxford frames became Popular in the late 19th century first becoming common in the 1860's.
Described by Dr Christopher Dresser as a 'fanciful yet good frame'. Sometimes described as Cruciform and in America they were usually known as Rustic frames or Currier & Ives frames, characterised by sides which cross each other and project some distance at the corners they are decorated with deep chamfering to the frames, wooden lozenges and brass buttons that differ between the two.
This large mirror has an attractively proportioned mahogany or oak and giltwood frame with nicely chamfered edges and gilt metal detailing to the corners. Could be hung portrait or landscape.
Great in any room.
